Mental Performance Coach

NJ/NY Gotham FC is seeking a Mental Performance Coach to enhance communication, build resilience, and optimize performance under pressure for both individual elite performers and the soccer operations organization. This full-time, in-person role reports to the Director of Player Health & Performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop communication and cohesion among coaches, players, and support staff to enhance effectiveness.
• Design and implement strategies that promote desired cultural behaviors individually and collectively.
• Provide real-time evaluation and feedback on interpersonal skills, communication, cohesion, and collaboration.
• Facilitate group and one-on-one training to optimize individual and team performance.
• Offer techniques to mitigate performance barriers arising from stressors such as anxiety, self-talk, environment, motivation, injury, and team dynamics.
• Provide psychological skills training in mental focus, mindfulness, relaxation, and visualization.
• Assist in developing a positive and supportive environment for players and staff.
• Triage mental health matters and refer to the Sports Psychologist when clinical support is needed.
• Collaborate with medical, performance, and coaching staff to facilitate player development.
• Provide holistic support during injury and return-to-performance processes.

Qualifications

• Master’s or doctorate degree in sports science, psychology, or a related field.
• Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) or equivalent.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience as a Mental Performance Coach in an elite sport setting.
• Experience collaborating with coaches and support staff in a multidisciplinary high-performance team.
• Ability to balance confidentiality with effective communication among stakeholders.
• Excellent self-directed work ethic and organizational skills.
• Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
• Willingness to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to travel for away games as required.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States.

Location
This position is fully in-person, based at Gotham FC’s soccer operations office and practice facility in Whippany, New Jersey. Attendance at all home games, mandatory events, and necessary away games is required. Occasional work at the team’s business operations office in Jersey City, New Jersey, may be needed.
